Elephant and Castle

Some of my favorite brunch places happen to fall in the same vicinity of each other – aka the west village.  To name a few, you can get great baked eggs from August or yummy banana french toast from Extra Virgin (Yes, I do frequent these places often).  But I thought I would try to be adventurous today and pick something new.  As I did my research of brunch places in the village, Elephant & Castle popped up.  I heard great things about this place, and hey, it has a cute name so why not go there?
The place itself is relatively small and it has that wooden picnic-y décor (if that means anything).  The menu hosts a variety of options, but I am a breakfast girl and I need my eggs in the morning - “Eggs Benedict please” J
When you think eggs benedict, you immediately picture the classic - white poached egg and smoked ham on top of an English muffin, with this great yellowy hollandaise sauce poured over it to complete that yummy goodness.  Now picture this – replace English muffin with fluffy french toast (pre-sweetened with warm maple syrup) and the ham is replaced with sweet, crunchy green apples.  It sounds like a weird combination, but if you are into the sweet and savory thing, this definitely satisfies.  I may not be an eggs benedict connoisseur but the Eggs’n Apples Benedict at Elephant & Castle has my vote as one of the most creative spins on the old time classic.  I will be back.
